read about the construction of the "disney princess" empire here I find it amazing that even though now, we almost naturally equate "princess" with "disney-esque", this wasn't formally created until 2000-2001. (also in the article, the princess-ification of the color pink.) it's also extraordinary that these two aspects are so new and yet so ingrained in us that we can barely remember the world before the marketing.
